William Bailey Allen

William Bailey Allen, age 101, of Clarksville, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Tennova Healthcare. William Bailey was born January 15, 1922, in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late Eliza Emery Allen and Bailey F. Allen Jr.
He graduated from Clarksville High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture.
William Bailey was the fifth generation to reside and farm Allendale. In a recent interview, he said "I would like to be remembered as a farmer who loved family, land, cows, and horses, but not necessarily in that order."
William Bailey served as a Montgomery County Magistrate on the Quarterly Court and taught Agriculture at Austin Peay State University. He was a member of numerous organizations including, director of the Montgomery County Co-op, Montgomery County Horseman's Association, Peacher's Mill Land and Cattle Company, Montgomery County Cattleman's Association, Montgomery County Historical Society, Sons of the American Revolution, General Society War of 1812, Sons of Spanish American War and The Society of the Cincinnati.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bailey F. and Eliza Emery Allen, and his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Farmer Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Barbee Batson Gosney Allen and his children, Amelia Allen Hartz, Dr. William Bailey Allen II (Kathy); stepchildren, Barbee Gosney Uselton, Stephen Gosney; grandchildren, Darcy Schein, Carrie Hartz, Emery Hartz, Tripp Allen (Rosa) and Elizabeth Lane (Jon); step-grandchildren, Nicholas Gosney and Miranda Uselton Shirk (Isaac). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Niece, Anna Dismukes Brown (Eddy) and nephew, Edward R. Dismukes III of Franklin and Donelson.
The family would like to recognize dear friend and farm manager James Frommel and family for their continued support over the years.
A Celebration of Life at Allendale will be announced at a future date for immediate family. In addition, a memorial service will be held at the upcoming 2023 Allendale reunion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the John D. Bartee Agricultural Complex, P.O. Box 30806 Clarksville, TN 37040, or the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040.
