Sergeant First Class (Retired) Wayne Allen Hutchinson, born on May 24, 1929, in Cleveland, Mississippi, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2024 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville.
Wayne dedicated 21 years of his life to serving in the Army, achieving the esteemed rank of Sergeant First Class. His remarkable military career included distinguished service in the Korean War, where he demonstrated exceptional courage by participating in 2 combat jumps. For his sacrifices and bravery, Wayne was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
Beyond his military tenure, Wayne (Hutch) pursued his passions with vigor. In his retirement years, he found joy in small engine repair. Prior to this endeavor, Hutch shared his expertise as a mechanic at Sky Line Lanes bowling alley and also worked as a manager at the bowling alley on the Fort Campbell installation. He also enjoyed fellowship as a Mason at Lodge #89 in Clarksville.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his surviving loved ones: his devoted wife of 74 years, Ruth Hutchinson; sons Danny (Barbara), Michael (Debbie Lynn), and Gary (Debbie Jean); and daughter Marsha (Bobby, deceased). He is also survived by a cherished network of family and friends including a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ogar and Willie Maude Hutchinson, he is predeceased by his brothers, Ogar, Jr. and Winford Hutchinson.
In honoring Wayne's life and legacy, visitation services will be held on Friday, July 19th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home in Clarksville, TN. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:45. Following this, a graveside service will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY beginning at 12:00 PM on the same day. Members of the US Army Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and render full military honors. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Edward Whitlow, Bob Weimer, and Luis Gonzalez.
