SFC (Ret) Hiram Ray Overstreet, age 71, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at his home in Clarksville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Ray Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Full military honors will be rendered.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Ray entered this life on May 14, 1942 in Brewton, Alabama, son of Willie and Irene Cooley Overstreet. Ray retired from the U.S. Army following a prestigious military career. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and was a Vietnam Veteran. Among his many commendations and medals are the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2D OLC), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and a Unit Citation Badge with Palm. Ray enjoyed fishing and attended the Full Gospel Tennessee Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 31 years, Sung Hui Overstreet, sons, Steven and Joseph Overstreet, and sisters, Cheryl Eggart and Judy McNew.
