SFC (Ret) Carl M. Gillis, a beloved husband, father, and proud soldier, passed away on June 26, 2025, at the age of 66 in Clarksville, Tennessee. Born on March 8, 1959, in Defuniak Springs, Florida, Carl lived a life marked by dedication, service, and compassion.

Carl's commitment to his country was exemplified through his nearly 24 years of distinguished service in the United States Army. He began his military career with the 7th Special Forces Group, where he served for three years before being assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell. For nearly two decades, he contributed to countless successful missions, earning respect and admiration from all with which he served.

Outside of his military service, Carl was known for his nurturing spirit and protective nature, always ready to lend a hand to family, friends, and even strangers. He exemplified what it meant to be a loving husband to his wife, Myra Gillis, and a dedicated father to his children, Mariah Kornberger and Christopher Gillis. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Carl enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing and working in his yard, which allowed him to connect with nature and find peace. He took pleasure in the simple things in life, often sharing those experiences with his loved ones. He and his family enjoyed membership at Trenton Assembly of God (Trenton, Kentucky), and attendance at LifePoint Church (Clarksville, Tennessee).

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Myra Gillis; children, Mariah Kornberger (Devin) and Christopher Gillis (Anita); grandsons, Robert Wynn and Kenny Gillis; and siblings, Roger Gillis, Nancy Rehbine, and Barbara Gillis Hopek. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Eloise Day Gillis.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Trenton Assembly of God, located at 2239 Clarksville Rd., Trenton, Kentucky. The service will begin at 12:00 PM, providing an opportunity for all family and friends to gather and honor the remarkable legacy of Carl Gillis.

His life was a testament to duty, love, and unwavering strength. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
