Rodger Emery, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 4 , 2024. He was born on April 4, 1947, in Crainville, IL to the late Coy and Vena DeLoach Emery.

Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Wall and Rev. James Sanders will officiate.  From an early age Rodger displayed duty and commitment to his country. He served in the US Army from 1967 to 1969.  In 1974, Rodger began working as a grocery store manager. Despite only managing the store for a year, Rodger's impact was felt by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. After completing his military service, Rodger embarked on a chapter as a coal miner. For 28 years, he worked tirelessly underground, demonstrating both strength and perseverance in the face of challenging conditions. His dedication to his work earned him the admiration of his colleagues and ensured a livelihood for his family. He had a deep passion for the outdoors and loved fishing and camping. His fondness for nature transcended into his hobby of woodworking, where he created intricate pieces that showcased his craftsmanship. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was grilling and smoking food. Rodger also had an appreciation for guns. Rodger's devotion to his faith was steadfast, as he attended Crossland Avenue Baptist Church. His spiritual connection brought him solace and strength throughout his journey. He was a member of the local VFW.  Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rodger's true joy in life came from spending time with his loved ones. He was married to Brenda Faye McAnelly Emery for nearly 57 years—a marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their bond served as an inspiration to all who witnessed their harmonious partnership. Rodger was also a loving father to three children: Rodger Dale Emery II (Michele), Crystal Faye Emery Ennis (JD), and Kelly Lynn Emery Lucas (Jason).  He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Samantha Brittney Emery Yochum (Jon), Corey Mason Lucas, Kyle Andrew Lucas, Rayna Denise Lucas, and "Jonathan" Derrick Ennis. They each held a special place in his heart.  The arrival of Emery Rose Yochum, Rodger's great-granddaughter, brought an additional level of love and fulfillment to his life.

In honoring Rodger's memory, pallbearers will include Jason Lucas, Corey Lucas, Kyle Lucas, Derrick Ennis, Jon Yochum, and JD Ennis. These individuals were not only touched by Rodger's influence but also embody the qualities that he exemplified throughout his life.
