Ricky Castleberry, beloved by family, friends, and the community, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his home in Cumberland Furnace. Born on June 8, 1955, Ricky lived a life marked by kindness, service, and steadfast commitment to those around him.
Ricky graduated from Montgomery Central High School in 1973. This early foundation in a close-knit community shaped the generous and caring person he became. Throughout his life, Ricky forged many enduring friendships; he never met a stranger, and his readiness with a smile or helping hand made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
His dedication to hard work and public service was demonstrated through his long career as a truck driver with the TDOT Highway Department out of Montgomery County. As a valued employee, Ricky's countless years of service earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike. He was also a proud member of the TDOT Employee Association. A man of deep faith, Ricky loved his Lord Jesus and cherished his fellowship with the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a true sense of family. For 28 years, Ricky served as a Trustee for the Mt. Zion Cemetery, exemplifying his ongoing commitment to stewardship and honor for generations past and present. He was known for his zest for life, engaging deeply in activities that brought him joy and brought others together. Ricky loved fishing, especially with his daughter Brittany and grandson Lane. But any and all moments spent with his family were cherished. Ricky was an avid Elvis fan that passed his admiration for “The King” down to his granddaughter, Riley! He also found excitement as a dirt track racer for 25+ years, the thrill of NASCAR, and sharing his love for basketball through coaching, enriching the lives of countless youth. It should be noted that Ricky expressed his love for community and honoring those that passed before him by gifting friends and neighbors with over 800 laminated obituaries over the years. Honoring the lives of previous generations was important to Ricky.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sue Ferrell Castleberry; daughter, Brittany Svoboda (Shannon); grandchildren, Riley and Lane; and brothers, Thomas Castleberry (Gretta), Glen Castleberry (Judy), Lonnie Castleberry (Ann), and Benny Castleberry (Cindy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Russell Castleberry Jr. and Jewel Baxter Castleberry, and a brother, Jack Castleberry.
Family and friends are invited to come fellowship and pay respect at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, 1209 Madison St, Clarksville, TN 37040. The first visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and again on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the funeral home chapel on Sunday beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. Lisa Payton officiating. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Ricky’s legacy will continue to be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him—his warmth and kind spirit will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to either the Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund or to the American Heart Association.
