Richard dedicated a remarkable career to the United States Army, where his service included two tours during the Korean War and one tour in Vietnam. His commitment to his country exemplified his courage and character, which he carried through to his civilian life after retirement. Following his military service, he worked for over a decade at Trane Company, and finally enjoying a more relaxed pace as an employee at the local auto auction in Clarksville on Needmore Rd.
A longtime member of Hilldale Baptist Church, Richard was known for his deep faith and love for his Lord Jesus. He was a faithful reader of the Holy Bible and cherished his daily devotionals. Richard's passion for family was evident in many ways; he delighted in cooking for his loved ones and was affectionately known as "The Tickle Monster" for his playful spirit with his children and grandchildren. His love for children was further demonstrated through his contributions at church, specifically his service in the Resource Room of the Children's Ministry. Richard shared precious moments with his children in their youth, often taking them fishing, creating lasting memories that they will cherish forever.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Rosalie Leasher Watrous, and his beloved daughters: Vicki Demoura (Raul), Terri Byars (Paul), Tina Black, and Marla Ince. His daughter, Susan Evans, preceded him in death 1 year prior on Sept 1, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love embodied in his fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
