Richard Hardwick

June 13, 1925 — June 6, 2013

Richard David Hardwick, 87, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, June 6 , 2013 at his residence.
A celebration of his life will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Deacon Dominick Azzara. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m., Sunday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m.
Richard was born June 13, 1925 in Oakland, Alameda County, CA and was preceded in death by his parents, David Newcomb and Gladys Brucker Hardwick; his first wife, Juanita Borders Hardwick; brother, Albert Blake "Bert" Hardwick; step-brother, Robert "Bobby" Lyne; and his stepfather, Robert M. "Bob" Lyne.
He attended Howell Elementary, South Christian High School, received his BS at Austin Peay State College when he was Senior class president and as an outstanding athlete he lettered in Baseball, basketball and Tennis. Then he received his MA at George Peabody College in Nashville. He was listed two (2) years in Who's Who in American Universities & Colleges. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp; serving as a lieutenant as a Bombardier and Navigator.
Mr. Hardwick was formerly a Coach and Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Montgomery Central High School and formerly owned and operated Clarksville Auto Parts and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His hobbies included flying and golf.
A Charter Member and Past President of APSU Governors Club, Oak Grove Kiwanis Club, TN/KY Chapter of AUSA and a member of the American Legion. He served on the Board of Directors at Bi-County Solid Waste Management System, Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, Clarksville Montgomery County Airport, First National Bank/Dominion Bank, Oak Grove Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Association. In 2012 Clarksville Parks & Recreation awarded him the Legends Old School Coach Award at the Clarksville Sports Festival.
He is survived by wife, Ruby Nell Mayton Hardwick; sons, David Bruce (Mary Ann) Hardwick, Richard Kirk "Rick" (Debbie) Hardwick, Clarksville; step-daughters, Deborah Martins Street, Dickson, TN, Mary Ellen Martins, Pembroke, KY; step-son, Siegfried (Tracy) Martins, Jr., Simpsonville, SC; granddaughter, Roni Chloe (Craig Allen) Hardwick Boyce, Colorado Springs, CO; grandsons, Blake David Hardwick, Maple Shade, NJ, Richard Nicholas "Nick" (Jenni) Hardwick, Clarksville; great-grandsons, Ryan Phillip Boyce, Reid David Boyce, John-Ryan Kingston Hardwick; great-granddaughters, Haleigh Danielle Hardwick, Olivia Leighton Hardwick; step-granddaughter, Madison Reece Martins; step grandson, Seth Andrew Martins.
Special thanks to caregivers, Andrew Moore, Margaret Wood, Misty Carlson, Suzanne Traughber and Asera Care Hospice Staff.
Pallbearers will be Nick Hardwick, Zeke Martins, Blake Hardwick, Randy Reese, Ryan Boyce, Glenn Cornett, Reid Boyce and Sims Riggins.
