Patty Jean Thomas Foster, age 68, passed away Monday evening, August 25, 2025, at her home. She was born on April 11, 1957, in Montgomery County, to Fred and Sarah Jean Thomas.
Patty is preceded in death by her husband, David Wayne Foster, her father, Fred Thomas, her maternal grandparents, Jake and Becky McWhorter, and her paternal grandparents, Lela and C.T. Thomas.
Patty was a proud member of the 1975 class of Montgomery Central High School and of the Cunningham and surrounding area community. Patty was a lifelong member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. Patty attended Austin Peay State University. In her early career, she worked for the J.C. Davis Company and then later worked as a medical transcriptionist.
Patty is survived by her son, Jonathan Blake Foster, mother, Sarah Jean Thomas; brother David Thomas (Teresa), sister Tammy Irions (Dwayne), nieces, Connor Thomas, Cory Thomas, and Callie Saulsburry, and nephew, Adam Poe (Erika). Patty is also survived by her great-nieces, Leah Saulsburry and Lynnox Poe, her great-nephews, Weston Humphrey, Brody Poe, and Roman Poe, as well as her Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Jerry Ellis, and the McWhorter cousins.
Patty loved her family, loved her church, loved the Andy Griffith show, and loved Jekyll Island. Before Patty’s health failed, she was an avid reader and enjoyed doing cross-stitch.
The Celebration of Life is at 12 noon on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. David Mackens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
The family would like to acknowledge the continued support of Gum Springs Baptist Church, especially the Woman’s Ministry group. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Gum Springs Baptist Church Delbert Homol Family Life Center.
Pallbearers are Dwayne Irions, Danny Wells, David Elliot, Michael Howard, Phillip Morris, and Josh Suiter. Honorary Pallbearers are Jenifer Shaffer, Beverly Keay, Cathy Karns, Yevette Howard, Tammy Irions, and Teresa Thomas.
