Sergeant First Class (SFC) Michael F. Rivera, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away on July 8th, 2024, in Clarksville, TN at the age of 70. He was born on December 13th, 1953, in Las Cruces, NM to proud parents who instilled in him the values of family, honor, integrity and service.
Michael proudly served his country as a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged due to a reduction in force. Throughout his military career he embodied the values of honor, courage and commitment with unwavering dedication. During his time in service he received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Services Ribbon (with number 3), NATO Medal, Air Assault Badge, Expert Marksmanship Badge (Pistol 9mm), and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge (Rifle M-16). His bravery and sacrifice will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched during his time in service.
In addition to his military accomplishments, Michael pursued higher education and earned his bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University, and his master’s degree from Boston University - showcasing not only his commitment to learning but also personal growth throughout his life. He instilled his love of learning in his children, and especially in his only grandson. He was always willing to help with homework and school projects. Michael took pride in his grandson’s educational accomplishments, and never missed one of the many academic award celebrations for his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Delia G. Rivera; son Michael D. Rivera; daughter Michelle D. Rivera; grandson Seth Crocker; brothers Archie, Danny, David, Frankie, Steven, sister Lupe Bencomo (Phillip); honorary brother, Sonny Gonzales; uncle Lalo Rivera; Aunt Dolores Wood; as well as many nieces and nephews. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dolores G. Rivera; sister Gloria F. Rivera; and brother David Rivera.
Michael was known for being a devout Catholic who found solace in prayer every night without fail - lighting a candle and reciting the rosary with unwavering devotion. His faith guided him through life's challenges while giving him strength to help others whenever possible. His kindness knew no bounds as he always prayed for those in need and extended a helping hand whenever it was within his power to do so. To know Michael was to love him – he had an infectious smile that could light up any room along with an unparalleled sense of humor that brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him personally or professionally. The impact left behind by SFC Michael F. Rivera will continue through cherished memories held close by family members including friends made throughout various stages of life – each one carrying forward lessons learned from this remarkable man whose legacy will never fade away.
The services will be held on Friday July 19, 2024 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. The schedule will be as follows:

10:30: Visitation at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home
12:00: Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
14:00: Burial at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
16:00: Reception at Pete Olson Law (114 Franklin Street)
The pallbearers will be Michael D. Rivera, Michelle D. Rivera, Seth Crocker, John Heikkinen, Brandon Cavazos, and Brett Cavazos.
