Mark Totten, a beloved pastor, educator, and friend to many, was called home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2025. Born on October 16, 1957, Mark lived a life dedicated to serving others, nurturing his faith, and enriching his community.
Mark’s commitment to his religious journey began in his hometown of Logan, West Virginia. He was deeply devoted to the church in Logan, where his journey of faith started at the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church. It was there that he turned his life over to the Lord and was later ordained. Mark always maintained a deep connection to the church and cherished memories of his hometown and lifelong friends. His parents and the church laid the foundational groundwork for his spiritual development and walk with Christ.
Mark's commitment to his religious journey continued at Liberty University, where he enrolled in 1977 (then Liberty Baptist College). He earned his B.S. in Religion in 1980 and went on to attend Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, completing his M.Divin 1983. His education laid the foundation for a notable career in ministry and education.
From 1983 until 1993, Mark served as an associate pastor and elder of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Antioch TN, where he touched the lives of many with his compassion and dedication. In 1993, he became the pastor of Grace Bible Church, further solidifying his commitment to his congregation and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Alongside his pastoral duties, Mark was chancellor and a professor at Nashville Bible College throughout the late 80s and early 90s, providing guidance and mentorship to countless students and future congregational leaders.
Mark was passionate about his faith, often expressing his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His strong sense of community extended to his church family and his profound love for his country. He was known for his warm spirit and relentless support for those around him, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he encountered.
He is survived by his sister, Shannon McLemore, and her husband, Michael S. McLemore; and his nephew, Ryan McLemore. Mark will be dearly missed by his family and friends, as well as the many lives he influenced throughout his ministry. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Effie Johnson Totten.
