Lt. Col. (Ret) John Ralph Jones, age 83, of Clarksville, went to be with his Lord while at Vanderbilt Medical Center on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Reverends Cliff Wright and Laurie Hynson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered.
The Jones family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Lt. Col. Jones entered this life on December 3, 1930 in Trenton, New Jersey, son to the late Samuel C. Jones and Ruth McCullouch Jones. He entered the U.S. Army as a young man and throughout his military career proved to be a leader and dedicated soldier. He rose through the ranks and ultimately attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel concurrently while serving in Vietnam. Upon entering civilian life, John went to work for a number of years for the former Northern Bank of Clarksville, where he concluded his professional career. John was a member of the church family at Madison Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn Shelby Jones; his sons, Samuel C. Jones and his wife, Shannon D. Jones, and Douglas A. Jones and his wife, Shannon R. Jones, all of Clarksville; and a sister, Polly Sameth and her husband Richard of Mantoloking, NJ. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Samantha, Reese, John, and Lela Jones.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Eddy Shelby, Mark Shelby, John Sameth, Jeff Sameth, Randy Harper, and Jim Wright.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Madison Street United Methodist Church or to the Hilldale Baptist Church.
