Lorena “Rena” Matthews Clark, age 71, of Erin, TN, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Pounds and Dr. Daniel Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday morning.
Rena entered this life on October 30, 1951, in Lebanon, Tennessee, daughter to the late Carl Anson Matthews and Bernice Scroggins Matthews.
Rena was educated as a Medical Technologist at Tennessee Tech University. Early in her Career she worked at Trinity Hospital which brought her to Erin (Houston County Community Hospital) as a medical technologist and later served as Laboratory supervisor. She retired from Blanchfield Army Hospital in 2007 as a civilian at Fort Campbell Kentucky, receiving special recognition from the Department of the Army, the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
Rena found solace and strength in her faith as an active member of Erin Baptist Church. She was always seeking opportunities to make a positive impact within her church family, which played a significant role in her life. She held many volunteer roles over the years as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School teacher, and many cooking related committees over the years.
Rena will be remembered as the “Classic Southern Lady” because of her kind-heartedness, ability to listen to everyone, and her warm smile. She was always ready to “Bake and Take” a meal to any event, donate to other's needs, and provide genuine hospitality towards anyone she met. Rena had a wide range of hobbies including baking, cooking, knitting, gardening; all of which brought her joy. She most enjoyed traveling with her loving husband G.E., her daughter, Melissa, and her most precious granddaughter, Felicity. Her free time was spent tending to her beautiful flowers, and caring for her beloved cocker spaniels, Dolly and Charlie.
Lorena had an unwavering dedication to her Family, passion for her work, strong Christian faith, all with an endearing selfless nature. She leaves behind cherished memories in the many photographs she took, a legacy of service and kindness that will be forever treasured by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Rena was preceded in death by her baby brother, Steven Matthews; nephew, Kirk Clark; sister-in-law, Sharon Wright, and Janie Clark.
Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years, George Clark; daughter, Melissa Clark; and her precious granddaughter, Felicity Fulcher. Rena also leaves behind her siblings, Elaine Matthews, Nelson (Lillie) Matthews, Peggy Matthews, Tim Matthews, Dan Matthews; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Berry Morrison, Brandon Wright, Stephen Clark, Chase Clark, Chance Clark, and Scott Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Martin, Nelson Matthews, Tim Matthews, and Dan Matthews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Erin Baptist Church, P.O. Box 410, Erin, TN, 37061.
