Lawrence Ray Adkins, age 92, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Gateway Medical Center.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday October 9, 2012, 2 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Guthrie, KY. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. on Monday October 8, 2012 and 1 p.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held Monday at 7 p.m.
Ray was born March 28, 1920 in Adams,TN, son of the late Dudley W. and Ethel Albright Adkins. He was Co-Owner of A & W Auto Parts, member of First Baptist Church, Red River Masonic Lodge and Al Menah Shrine. He was a WWII Navy Chief Quartermaster. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife,
Ethel Jane Adkins; three brothers, Royce, Glen and Red Adkins and a sister, Francis Griffin.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Lyden Manning; grandchildren, John Louis (Meg) Manning IV and Janie Manning; great-grandson, John Louis Manning V; sisters, Jo (C.H.) O’Brien all of Clarksville and Teenie (Jack) Jones of Springfield; sister-in-law, Anne Dale Adkins of Cedar Hill; long time companion, Dorothy Coppedge of Clarksville.
Pallbearers will be, Ronnie Martin, Jack Jones, C.H. O’Brien, Clifford Adkins, Mort Paisely, Donnie Winters, Otis Hackney, Bobby Dean Bagby and Zoot Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be, David Mitchell and Dick Corbin.
