Kesha entered this life on April 24, 1972, in Jackson, Mississippi to James and Verma Horne. She loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Sango Real Life church and always found joy in helping and serving others. Kesha’s greatest joys in life were her faith and her family. She loved Jesus deeply, and her faith was not just something she believed in, but something she lived through the love, kindness, and compassion she extended to others. She found joy and purpose in serving at her church, and her heart for helping others was a beautiful reflection of the faith she held so dearly.
To know Kesha was to know a love that was genuine, generous, and selfless. She had a heart that always made room for others, even when she had little left for herself. If someone needed something and she had it, she would give it without a second thought, even if it meant going without. That was simply who she was. She loved without keeping score, gave without expecting anything in return, and often placed the happiness and well-being of others before her own. She was truly the embodiment of sacrificial love.
Family was at the center of Kesha’s world, and some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by those she loved, especially her five grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. She cherished time together, whether it was a family movie night, a trip to the farmers market, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She also loved exploring thrift stores, always delighted by the possibility of finding something unique and special. Kesha found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, and she had a way of making ordinary moments feel meaningful.
While Kesha had a gentle and caring nature, those who knew her best also knew her wonderful sense of humor. She loved to laugh, and the people closest to her were blessed to experience the playful side of her personality. Those shared laughs, familiar jokes, and little moments of joy are memories her loved ones will forever hold dear.
Kesha’s life was a beautiful example of faith, compassion, and unconditional love. She gave so much of herself to the people around her, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured by material things, but by the lives she touched and the love she shared. Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of those who loved her, her spirit will live on through the memories they cherish, the lessons she taught, and the kindness they carry forward.
Her greatest gift was the love she gave, and that love will remain with us always.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 20 years, John Fortson; children, Breana Bell and spouse Robin, Keyana Horne, Andrea Beck and husband Jonathan, David Simili, Abram “AJ” Fortson, Ella Fortson, and Isaiah Fortson; grandchildren, Emory Horne, Nevaeh Lopez, Noah Beck, Roman Beck, and Kaleb Bell; siblings, James Horne, Jason Horne, Edward Horne, Nancy Horne, Queen Brown, Susan Parks, Pam Maclearn, and Melanie Thomas.
In addition to her mother, Kesha was also preceded in death by her son Chris Horne.
