Mrs.Jean Elsie Spurgeon, 79, Tennessee Ridge,departed this life and left for glory to dwell with Jesus forever on October 4, 2007, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2pm Sunday at Nave Funeral Home with Sister Beverly Dycus and Sister Denice Settles officiating. Burial will be in Lockhart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm till 8pm Saturday and from 8am till service Sunday at Nave Funeral Home. Mrs.Spurgeon was born November 26, 1927 Mrs. Spurgeon was born the daughter of Paul and Elsie Genthenburg, raised in Dearborn, Michigan and worked for General Motors where she met her loving husband of 54 years, Brown Spurgeon. Ms. Jean was preceded in death by her parents , Siblings Paul Gentenbury, Virginia King, Pearl Kilby and Ruth Hacht. Surviving children include sons Robert Spurgeon (Jeannette) of Cumberland City, Rick Spurgeon (Deneice) of Nashville and Tony Spurgeon of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren include Jonathan Spurgeon, Scarlett Spurgeon, Ashley Lynch, Angie Logsdon, Michelle Vance,Kelly DePalo, Greg Spurgeon and Nicole Spurgeon. In addition, she leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand child. Mrs Spurgeon attended the Tennessee Ridge United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Her main pasion in life was to honor the Lord and follow in his footsteps. Her actions words and deeds allowed her to bring others to Christ and seek his kingdom. One of her many talents were to make people laugh. She was a natural for bringing the best out in others and bringing them closer toGod. She loved the old hymns and would smile when she saw her favorite songs posted on the song board at church. In lieu of flowers, love offerings can be forwarded to the Tennessee Ridge United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Brent Logsdon, Patrick Lynch, Beverly Nolen, Charlie Ligon, Eddie Shelton, Tom Strickland, Jonathan Spurgeon, Ed Bradley.
