J.D. Harvey

Mr. J.D. Harvey, age 90, of Houston County, TN passed away October 24, 2026 at Humphrey’s County Care & Rehab in Waverly, TN.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Bro. Joel Nulty officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

J.D. was born September 4, 1936 in Houston County, TN, the second of five sons of the late Charles Edward Harvey and Bessie Lee (Hudson) Harvey. J.D. was named after his grandfather, the late James Doss Hudson, and given initials only. J.D. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Helen Harvey; his parents, and his brothers, Thurston Harvey, Bell Harvey, Dewayne Harvey and Landon Harvey.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Parchman; sons, Kendall Harvey and Loren Harvey; and grandchildren, Trapper Parchman, Kayla Beth (Brandon) Newgent and Kale (Caitlin) Harvey.

J.D. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, J.D. was employed by Southern Gage for many years as a machinist until his retirement. J.D. was a Christian and a good neighbor to many. He enjoyed raising big gardens and sharing vegetables with family, friends, and those in need. He enjoyed working with horses and mules, using horse-drawn implements on the farm and wagon rides. He always kept a pony on the farm for the grandchildren to ride when they were little. During his later years, J.D. enjoyed helping his sons with farm work, watching his grandchildren grow up, family meals and gatherings, bluegrass music, and having his morning coffee with friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Trapper Parchman, Kale Harvey, Brandon Newgent, Brad Harvey, Charles Harvey, Kevin Harvey, Jeff Harvey, and Greg Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Parchman, and Fred Clark.
