James R. “Jimmy” Brady, age 84 of Erin, TN, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at his residence, with family by his side.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Denny officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Heights Cemetery in Erin, TN.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at 11:30am.
Jimmy entered this life on November 11, 1941 in Columbia, TN, son to the late George Brady and Rena Cozart Tomlin. Following the death of his mother, Jimmy was raised by his Aunt and Uncle; late Malcolm Burns and Irene Brady Burns. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, and papaw to his family; he will be greatly missed. Jimmy’s Christian faith was the foundation of his life. He trusted God throughout life’s joys and challenges and found comfort in the promise of scripture. His family takes peace in knowing that he has been welcomed into the presence of his Savior and reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
Jimmy was a hardworking and dedicated man who wore many hats throughout his life. His career included service as a police officer and fire chief in Erin, TN, work as a crane operator for L&N Railroad, a welder for Conalco, construction work with Concrete Form Erectors, and later serving as utilities manager of the natural gas department for the City of Erin, later transferring to Greater Dickson Gas Authority. No matter what the role, Jimmy approached every job with determination, skill, and a willingness to help others. He was known for his strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and ability to tackle just about any task. To those who knew him best, there wasn’t much Jimmy couldn’t do.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by brothers; Paul Brady, Nathaniel “Van” Brady, Larry Tomlin, Cleve Burns (Jean), Howard Burns, and Frank Burns.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Reta D. Brady; children, James R. “Robbie” Brady, Jr. (Amanda), Freda Brady Russell; siblings, Brenda Brown, sister, Faye Burns, sister-in-law; grandchildren, Tabitha Lynn Dunavant (Caleb), James R. Brady, III, Christen Brady Mahan (Dusty), John R. Brady; and 7 precious great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be; Dwayne Cherry, Caleb Dunavant, James Brady, III, Elijah S. Dunavant, Jeff McManis, and Donnie Camp.
