Grant Kuroiwa

August 13, 2010 — May 3, 2023

Grant Kenji Kuroiwa, age 12, of Clarksville, TN passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3242 US-41A, Clarksville, TN.  The family will receive friends immediately before from 4-6PM at the church.

Grant was born August 13, 2010 in Carmel, Indiana.  He was a 6th grade student at Kirkwood Middle School and adored his teachers and friends.  Grant didn't know a life without pain and a need for hard work, though he faced his challenges willingly and with humility.  He was genuine, cheerful, optimistic, and goofy.  He loved life, was focused, determined, and inspiring in his efforts.  In facing multiple illnesses and physical challenges, Grant never questioned why; he only knew that sometimes he would need to work a little bit harder.  He enjoyed so much of life: trips to Disney World, ATV rides, Christmas, snuggling in his dad's shoulder, proudly watching his best friend/sister Mara perform, teasing his younger sisters, and growing in his church responsibilities.

In lieu of flowers, the Kuroiwa family asks that friends consider making a donation in Grant's memory to one of two organizations, Give Kids the World Village or CampCAMP.  Some of Grant's most memorable experiences were made with his family during his Make-A-Wish Trip to Disney World and staying at Give Kids the World Village.  It is a magical place committed to helping children with illnesses and their families have a stress-free trip together.  In addition, Grant attended CampCAMP for several summers while living in Texas.  There, he met friends and counselors who helped provide recreational opportunities for individuals with medical conditions or disabilities as well as their siblings.  Both places brought treasured memories to Grant and his family.

Grant is survived by his parents, Major Joshua and Nicole Kuroiwa; sisters, Mara, Reese, and Jane; Maternal grandparents, Eileen Bewley and Wayne (Shannon) Bewley; paternal grandparents, Dan (Amy) Kuroiwa and Margaret Brunk; along with numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
