Clarksville

With love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Gilbert Michael Harpfer. Although ill for several months, Gil passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2025, at the age of 79.

Gil was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on January 23, 1946 to Laurence and Anna (Cuddihy) Harpfer, spending only a brief time there before moving to Baltimore, Maryland, where he spent most of his childhood.

He proudly served over 14 years in the U.S. Army, earning many awards and recognition for his commitment to excellence. After retiring from military service, Gil traveled the United States as a pilot car driver, escorting oversized loads. He loved the open road and the freedom of travel, earning the nickname "The Mileage Master".

A man of deep faith, Gil accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior over 40 years ago. He led his family in the ways of the Lord and was a member of Greater Cumberland Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Sturdevant (Jerry). He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Marie (Bushong) Harpfer; his daughters, Amy Evans (Derrick Nichols) and Tiffany Rose Harpfer (Alfonso Morgan); and his niece, Ann Marie Abrahamsen.

He loved his girls — that’s for sure. Gil’s family was his greatest treasure. He was an avid sports fan with a special love for NASCAR, football, and golf — and he never hesitated to let the players and drivers know exactly how it should be done!

Gil will be remembered for his faith, laid-back spirit, and quick wit. He had a natural gift for making everyone feel welcome and he truly got along with just about anyone. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

No services are planned at this time. Condolences may be made to Gil’s family online at www.NaveFuneralHomes.com
