Ewell Thomas “Tommy” Nichols Jr, age 82 of Erin, TN, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Nulty officiating.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service Friday afternoon.

Tommy entered this life on September 13, 1942 in Humphreys County, TN, son to the late Ewell Thomas Nichols Sr, and Mary Catherine Kane Nichols. Tommy graduated from Houston County High School where he finished with an astonishing basketball career. During his senior season in 1960, he set the record of points scored with 618 points that season; a record that still holds today. Throughout his career as a contractor, Tommy built 113 homes in Houston, Humphreys, and Sewart County, and was the owner and operator of Nichols Building Supply from 1979 to 1994. In 1976, Tommy constructed and opened the Erin Recreation Center, which consisted of a barber shop, restaurant, and gaming center for the community to enjoy. After his retirement, Tommy spent his days spending time with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Nichols, William “Tee” Nichols, Bill “Bull” Nichols, Donnie “Frog” Nichols, and Betty Traywick.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia Gale Grice Nichols; children, Sean Thomas (Kelli) Nichols, Kevin Douglas (Mary Ann) Nichols; Tiffiny Nichols (Scott) Hooper; siblings, Andy (Linda) Nichols, and Wanda Cumberland. Tommy also leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Brittany (Zack) Hosse, Jeremy (Ashten) Nichols, Cole (Breanna) Hooper, Bailey (Maverick)Smith; great-grandchildren, Addilynn Sykes, Audrey Hosse, along with Thomas Avery Nichols, and Thomas Michael Hooper who were both named in honor of their great-grandad.
