Elvin R. Atkins, 87, Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Signature Health Care.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. David Evans and Rev. Beverly Dycus officiating. Burial will follow in Wilee's Chapel Cemetery with Navy Honors.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Atkins was born September 16, 1925 in Stewart County, TN and was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Reed and Idella Allen Atkins; children, Nancy Gail Atkins and Elvin Reynolds Atkins II; brothers, Henry, Orman, George Buford Atkins; sisters, Ramie Atkins, Nannie Atkins, Naomi Minnehan, Elsie Mae Atkins and Ellen Ikler. He was a member of Wilee's Chapel United Methodist Church, a Navy WWII Veteran, retired from Civil Service Ft. Campbell and the City of Clarksville, member of Indian Mound Masonic Lodge, and a Volunteer for Urban Ministries.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Etha Burkhart Atkins, Clarksville; son, Roger (Joy) Atkins, Clarksville; daughters, Patsy Atkins, Beverly (David) Dycus, Susan (John) Hambley, all of Clarksville; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tabatha) Atkins, Sherri (Dustin) Lamczyk, Tara (Wayne) Jacques, Amy Atkins, Angela (Wendell) Hensley, Joshua Hambley; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Allen, Joe Allen, John Allen, John Allen II, Jason Litchfield, Lathe Gaither, Kaleb Gaither and Bob Allen. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
