Norville Edward Poston, a veteran of the Korean War and longtime resident of Clarksville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Ed, as he was known to many, was born January 7, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Irwin Norville Poston and Nellie Hallie Freeman Poston.
Ed was the embodiment of love, resilience, and adventure. He loved to share stories of his adventures, including hopping a train from Michigan to California, playing pool with the World champion Willie Mosconi, his many hunting stories, and how very blessed he was in life.
Even in his later years, there was nothing he wouldn’t try and most likely master, like deer hunting for the first time at age 90. He won several pool tournaments at the Clarksville Senior Citizen Center and loved teaching others how to play.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, sacrifice, service, and adventure. His warmth and a smile that lit up any room will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Creola “Billie” Penrod Poston, whom he cherished for over 60 years; and his siblings Carl, Fred, Ken, and Ruth.
Ed and Billie raised, and are survived by, two children; Gary Keith Poston (son) and Lisa Poston Murphy (granddaughter). Ed is also survived by siblings Fran Hurt and Sue Poston Sexton (Robert); grandchildren, Gary Poston (Cierra), Lindsey Cowden (Matt), Deana Poston, Anthony Poston; great grandchildren Jordan Murphy and Hunter Murphy; many nieces, nephews, and incredible friends.
A celebration of life service with US Army Honors will be held at Excell Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Sexton officiating. Ed's family will announce service details at a later date.
