CSM (Ret) Larry Phillip Rodriguez, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Tampa, Florida.
Celebration of Life will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with CSM (Ret) Rev. Arthur Jones officiating.
Burial and full US Army honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Larry entered this life on October 31, 1949, in Los Angeles, California to the late Phillip Rodriguez and Dolores Godinez. He was a retired Veteran from The United States Army, achieving the rank of Division Command Sergeant Major (1995-1997) of the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY. He dedicated almost 30 years of honorable service to his country. His leadership and authority extended beyond the military, impacting soldiers near and far in a positive manner. His family looked to him for guidance and knew him as their fearless leader. Larry and his wife were one of the original owners of Maaco in Clarksville, TN, and he was later a contractor for FedEx, owning four trucks. He was the first of his family to graduate college and was the first Hispanic to achieve his rank at Ft. Campbell, blazing a trail for the generations to come. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, day trading with the stock market and in his younger years, camping and skiing. Larry was a devoted husband, caring father, and loving grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Florence Rodriguez, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Yolanda Rodriguez; children, Christina (Dane) Mahar, Yolanda (Charles, Jr.) Rodriguez-Weaser, and Juan (Lynn) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Sophia (Warren) Howard, Olivia Ortiz, Isabela Ortiz, Aurora Ortiz, Adrian Hopkins, Marinna (Austin) Barnett, Isaac Hopkins, SrA Christian (Morgan) Hopkins, Marianna Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez, Yolanda G.Rodriguez-Weaser, Dominique Rodriguez, Selena Rodriguez, Julian Rodriguez, and Santino Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Rylie, Madilyn, and Silas. Larry also leaves behind four brothers, and his fur babies, Pepper and Pixie.
