Clifford Kent, Jr.

Nashville - Clifford S. Kent Jr., passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023.

Clifford entered this life on November 6, 1943 in Colorado Springs Colorado, son of Clifford and Helene Kent. He spent a humble childhood growing up in Lakeland, FL, playing sports, delivering newspapers, learning small engine repair, and working at the local drug store.

He attended Florida Southern College on a scholarship from NASA to study chemistry and mathematics, finishing with degrees in both.  It was at Florida Southern, where he met his lifelong love, Jane Anne Park, marrying in 1964.  He later attended the University of Florida, where he received an MS in Nuclear Engineering.

He began his career with Florida Power & Light in Miami, FL working as an engineer during the design and construction of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant.  He subsequently lead engineering and construction activities for the St Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.  The second half of his career was spent with EBASCO services, where he lead the design and construction teams supporting the Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant in TN.  During his career, he developed numerous lifelong friends whom he valued and treasured.

He was passionate about many things in retirement, he had an enviable green thumb and loved gardening.  His days were frequently spent at the gym, riding his bike and going to lunch with his wife Jane.  He was an avid and accomplished Bridge player, participating in numerous weekly clubs and tournaments throughout the region, ultimately becoming a nationally ranked player.  Bridge was such a passion, his partners were scheduled weeks in advance.

In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Anne Kent.  He is survived by his sons Clifford S. Kent III (Billie Jo) and John B. Kent (Lauren), his beautiful grandchildren Olivia Grace, Parker Nicole and John Barton Kent; and his sister Helena Eschrich.
