Charles "Jap" Smith

October 3, 1935 — April 19, 2014

Charles Norman "Jap" Smith, age 78, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, while surrounded by his family at his home in the Shiloh Community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Chambers and Bro. Wayne Shelby officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ike-Smith Cemetery.
The Smith family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Charles entered into this life on October 3, 1935 in Montgomery County, son of William Ray Smith and Edrie Hickerson Smith. Before retirement, Jap was well known for his BBQ that he prepared and sold at Shiloh BBQ in southern Montgomery County. In the past, he had also worked at BF Goodrich and Moore Construction. As a young man he proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force. Jap also served as City Councilman during the 90's in Erin. He was a member of the Lee's Chapel Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents Charles goes to be reunited with his wife, Dorothy Teal Smith, and his brother, William Ray Smith, Jr. Survivors include his children, Cindy Schmittou (David) of Clarksville, Sharon Shively (Steve) of Shiloh, Janice Yarbrough (Joe) of Cunningham, Jeffery Stumphf of Clarksville, and Rodney Stumphf (Jan) of Clarksville. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Chambers, Mike Rose, Ricky Castleberry, Ryan Pope, Randy Schmittou, and Robert I. Harris.
In lieu of flowers contributions are preferred to either the F.U.E.L. Program c/o Gum Springs Baptist Church, Marion Rd., Cunningham, TN or to the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 5288 Chambers Rd., Cumberland Furnace, TN 37051.
