Brenda Batson Rye

May 11, 1942 — May 8, 2025

Cumberland City

Brenda Batson Rye, age 82, of Cumberland City, TN died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at home with her family by her side. She was born May 11, 1942, to the late Homer Edward Batson and Willie Charlotte Neblett. In addition to her parents, Brenda is also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Baldwin and Sara Kate Waller.

Brenda graduated from Montgomery Central High School where she met the love of her life, Joseph Fulton Rye. They married on June 2, 1962. Being a wife and mother were two of her greatest joys. They had two children together Robin Joyce Dunn (Rob) and Richard Fulton Rye (Marla). However, all priorities were set aside when grandchildren entered Brenda’s life. She cherished Haley Rye McCaslin (Daniel), Joseph Hunter Rye (Amanda), Mason Cooper Dunn and Emery Lee Dunn. We just thought “Nana” was excited about grandchildren and then she had great-grandchildren, Benjamin Scott McCaslin and Charlotte Rose McCaslin. She was looking forward to meeting the next one, Wesley Fulton Rye, who is due in a few days. She is also survived by her sister Martha Dell Wall (Billy Dee) and sister-in-law, Martha Nell Baggett. (late Cecil Baggett).

Brenda enjoyed a fulfilling career and retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services with over 30 years of service. She had so many friends within her work family. She was a woman of God that loved her church family at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. A social butterfly, Brenda enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. Later in life, she bonded in spirit and competition with her wonderful friends at TOPS. Brenda was creative and enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and crafting. She was generous and kind, making baby blankets in advance for the next expecting mother. With a heart to serve, she was a supporter of Room in the Inn, making stocking hats and donating to those less fortunate. Brenda was best known for her delicious peanut brittle that she enjoyed sharing with friends and family.

Brenda’s family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Mt. Zion Methodist Church on Highway 48. The Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 PM at the church with her nephew, Bryan Waller officiating. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Greg Baldwin, Chris Wall, Kevin Waller, Darren Baldwin, Marty Wall, Bryan Waller, Shane Waller, and Daniel McCaslin.
