Betty entered this life on June 28th, 1932 in Clarksville, TN, daughter to Clarence and Lorene Gafford. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers J.C. Gafford, Joe Gafford, and sister Christine Davis, her loving husband of over 50 years, Mr. Billy Ray Cleghern, as well as her dear daughter-in-law, Janet Cleghern.
Survivors include her deepest pride and joy: her sons, Tim Cleghern and Bryon(Tamie) Cleghern. Her 4 grandchildren: Megan Mitchell (Travis), Kristin Hill (Greg), Trenton Cleghern (Sarah), and Zachary Cleghern (Christa). As well as 6 great-grandchildren whom she greatly adored.
Betty was first and foremost a follower of Christ and a faithful member of Erin United Methodist Church where she chaired and served on countless committees since joining in 1959. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, a beloved Sunday school teacher, and served innumerable families through volunteering with Meals on Wheels for many years. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and classroom mother, always providing the most delicious homemade treats. She worked diligently in both her flower and vegetable gardens and took great pride in her yard work. She worked alongside her husband as a co-owner at Cleghern’s Grocery and regularly greeted customers with her warm smile and kind words for over 40 years. However, maybe her greatest accomplishment was her deep love for her family and commitment to many cherished traditions such as weekly Sunday lunches, vacations with her grandchildren, and countless holidays spent together. She leaves behind a deep legacy of love and faith that will always be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to her wonderful caregivers who provided incredible care to her for almost 5 years and were profoundly devoted to ensuring that she had the very best quality of life.
