Barbara Briggs

Barbara Ann Schmittou Briggs went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the age of 91.

Barbara was born on August 14, 1935, in Montgomery County, Tennessee, to Griff Schmittou and Margaret Hunt Schmittou, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ernest Lafayette Briggs and her brothers, Danny Schmittou, Ronnie Schmittou, and Tommy Schmittou.

Barbara is survived by her sons Ernie Briggs (Rosamond) and Mark Briggs (Beverly), her grandchildren Chip Briggs (Allie), Susan Briggs, Griff Briggs (Jennifer), and Alec Briggs, and her great-grandchildren Bastion, Caroline, Tip, and Baylor. She is also survived by her sister Jane Schroeder and her brothers Pete Schmittou (Amy) and Donnie Schmittou (Sue).

Barbara was an active member of First Baptist Church Clarksville for more than eighty years. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and shopping. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing at the “bream hole”. Barbara was bookkeeper for Wooton Supply, Briggs and Stanfill Clothiers, and Briggs Clothiers.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 499 Commerce St., Clarksville, Tennessee. Drs. Ronny Raines and Roger Freeman will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. Following, Barbara will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are Chip Briggs, Alec Briggs, Griff Briggs, Bastion Briggs, Jeff Schmittou, and Todd Schmittou.

In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church World Missions Fund, 499 Commerce Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
