Arthur Glenn "Art" Weyant, 84, Clarksville, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Gateway Medical Center. A graveside service will be held 4pm Tuesday, October 2, 2012, with full military honors, and with the Rev. John Mark Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday 4-7pm and Tuesday 12-3pm, at McReynolds, Nave & Larson Funeral Home.
He was born January 11, 1928, in Canton, Missouri, a son of Arthur John and Ora Lee Job Weyant. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth Merle Weyant and William Lee Weyant, sisters Callie Sue Wright and Mary Louise Jorgenson, and his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Mary Belle Jones Weyant, whom he lost to cancer in 1996.
Mr. Weyant served 21 years in the United States Army, 11th Airborne, 187th Infantry Regiment (Rakkasans), and was a Korean War veteran, having earned several distinguished medals and awards, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon retirement from military service, Mr. Weyant worked for the next 27 years in the Fort Campbell Club System and AAFES, managing the Officers Club in the 1960s, the Sportsman’s Lodge in the 1970s, and the Class Six / Package Store, from 1981 to 1994, when he retired.
In 1972, along with head-cook, Ms. Linda Kanka, Mr. Weyant began serving “wiener schnitzel” at the Sportsman’s Lodge, an idea that instantly proved popular and continues in tradition to this day. Mr. Weyant was devoted to his grandchildren, especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren, and was a tender and optimistic family man. He fished until he no longer could, and always savored the company of others.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Steffen (Richard), of Clarksville; a son, David Weyant (Teresa), of Cunningham; a sister, Ada Lu Wright, Canton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Joe Weyant, Jason Weyant, Jimmy Weyant, Lindy Harman, Josh Steffen, and Jacob Steffen; and nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Weyant, Johnathan Weyant, Gavin Weyant, Gage Weyant, Gracie Weyant, Tegan Harman, Luna Bella Harman, Hunter Steffen and Dylan Steffen.
“Our memories are the only paradise from which we can never be expelled.”
