Obituary

Obituary for Sara Frances Jernigan

After a long struggle with cancer, Mrs. Sara Frances Norris Jernigan, age 78, wife of Mr. Vernon Austin Davis (Sonny) Jernigan, passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2019 surrounded by her loving family in Clarksville, TN. Frances was born in Bells, TN on June 12, 1940, daughter of Paul David Norris and Fannie Bessie Norris, both deceased, on one of the largest strawberry farm in West Tennessee.
Visitation will be held at Allen Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN, on Wednesday, May 15 from 11:00 to 1:00, with the funeral service at 1:00. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
Frances was elected Brownsville, TN Property Assessor and served for 14 years. She was recruited to be a State Farm Insurance agent in Brownsville, TN in 1982. After five years as an agent, she moved into State Farm management and was the first woman hired into management in TN and KY. She became one of the most decorated and successful managers of her time. Her enthusiasm for her State Farm Insurance career was matched only by love and caring for her family and friends.
Frances is survived by her husband, Vernon Austin (Sonny) Jernigan, one brother, Benjamin Edward Norris (Betty Sue), two sisters; Mary Ann Norris Williams and Betty Jane Norris Morris (Scottie); daughters Teresa (Jernigan) Gaines and Rhonda (Jernigan) Sharp and son Vernon Rafe Jernigan. She has six grandchildren: Charlie III, Brooke and Brent, Chaz, Rachel and Reece and seven great grandchildren.
Memorials/contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
