Obituary

Obituary for MAJ. (Ret.) William "Pete" Henry Stormer

MAJ (R) William Henry "Pete" Stormer, age 68, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020.

A private family service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Pulley officiating. Full US Army Honors will be rendered.

He entered into this life on August 29, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Peter H. Stormer and Andrey Boughan Stormer. Pete was a born leader and aviator. He bravely served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict as a rotary wing pilot, flying countless helicopter sorties in combat and support missions. Throughout his 24 year military career, Pete had achieved the rank of Major and was a highly regarded Aviation Officer among his peers for his professionalism and commitment to his country. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Air Medal, and the Master Army Aviator Badge among many other decorations. He also received numerous Vietnam campaign ribbons and citations. Due to his many qualifications and instructor courses, Pete served a number of years in his second career at Redstone Arsenal's Aviation Test Center. Pete was a member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville.

Survivors include his loving and supportive wife of 44 years, Jane Smith Stormer; their children, Peter Robert (Kalina) Stormer and Jessica Stormer; granddaughter, Willa Madeline Stormer; and sister Sandra Stormer.

Condolences may be made to Pete's family at NaveFuneralHomes.com.

Jane,
I am very sorry to hear of this news. My deepest condolences to your family. Pete and I flew together at Edwards when I was just a young FTE just out of college. He was always very supportive and taught me a lot about flight testing, and was really fun to spend time with. He made a difference in my life and and was an important part in helping me be successful in my life and career.

Jane and Family. So sorry for your loss. Pete was very kind to me as a Brit on exchange with AFTD in a foreign land. He always took time to explain and support. I'm sure many test pilots and flight test engineers have run safer flight tests on account of Pete chipping in during a safety review with 'we tried doing it that way 10 years and....' A real gentleman and a honour to have known him. Regards. Mark Purvis
