John Baggett

July 16, 1965 — May 13, 2021

John Wayne Baggett, age 55, of Cunningham, passed into Glory on Thursday, May 13, 2021, surrounded by family at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1965, in Clarksville, TN to James Paul Baggett and Gelena Lee Powell Baggett.

John was a graduate of Montgomery Central High School and had been in the logging business his entire adult life until he suffered a stroke a couple of years ago. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Palmyra, TN. John Wayne enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and golfing with his nephew.

In addition to his parents, John Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, James Lee Baggett, and his maternal grandparents, Edna Powell and Leon Powell, as well as his paternal grandparents, Cullie Baggett and Stella Hayes Baggett. He is survived by his daughter, Brittney (Nathan) Scarborough of Cunningham; brother, Mark (Beth) Baggett of Cunningham; stepsons, John Williams and Ryan (Shauna) Williams of Clarksville; grandchildren, Alison Baggett, Matthew Scarborough, and one grandchild on the way; as well as five additional grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 11 to 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 2301 Highway 13, Palmyra, TN. A private burial with the family will be held at a later date.
