Gwendolyn Elizabeth Wall

August 20, 1928 — December 23, 2020

Gwendolyn Elizabeth McPherson (LeeLee) Wall, 92, died December 23, 2020 at Arcadia Senior Living in Clarksville after a short illness. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Greenwood Cemetery.

LeeLee was born on August 20, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia where she blessed the family of Nenien Coatsworth and Elizabeth Davison McPherson and their two older sons, Hoyt and Thomas. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, where her father was president, and then graduated from Southwestern at Memphis. She met Dr. William Herschel Wall, Jr. in Memphis, and they married in November 1949. Bill and LeeLee settled in Clarksville and together raised four children. They were married for 47 wonderful years. LeeLee was active in local community service and positively impacted the lives of many Clarksvillians. She was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church for over 60 years. LeeLee was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, her husband, and her daughter, Sarah Wall (Sally) DeSoto.

LeeLee is survived by her children Gwendolyn Elizabeth Wall (Joe Hamdorff) of Dickson, and William Herschel (Anne) Wall, III and Lina Wall (Henry) Baggett of Clarksville. She is also survived by her son-in-law Errol DeSoto and her grandchildren Elizabeth Weakley (Bo) Botts, James Benjamin (Stefanie) Weakley, Sarah Kathryn Weakley, Kathryn Wall (Aaron) Olita, Julia Wall (Greg) Bayles, Cornelia Rudolph Wall, William Wesley (Katie) Baggett, Betsy Baggett (David) Leavitt, and James Austin Baggett, as well as six great-grandchildren: Charlie and Polly Olita, Abby and Jack Weakley, Grace Bayles, and Wren Baggett.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Arcadia Senior Living and Asera Care Hospice of Clarksville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Tarpley Scholarship Fund, Madison Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 864, Clarksville, TN 37041-0864.
