Early Monday morning August 5th a beautiful smile and an even more beautiful soul left to be in awe in the presence of the GOD she loved. Cynthia (Cyndi) Rene’ Buchanan, born February 4th in 1962, was a much-loved woman because she loved much. She loved GOD deeply and out of that love flowed a love for her dad that preceded her, Jimmy Glynn Baldwin, and a love for those she is waiting to join her: her mom, Faye Baldwin; her husband of thirty-six years, Roy Buchanan; her daughters Bettye (Dustin) Garmon and Sheyna (Evan) Stone; three grandchildren she loved more than life itself – Briley, Blaine, and MaryElla Stone; her sisters Phyllis (Tim) Fulton and Amy (Glen) Glenn; nieces and nephews Bailey and Blake Fulton, Jay and Bren Glenn, Dana Smith Staley and Laura Smith Darnell.
She brought love into the world in lots of ways: adopting two beautiful baby sisters from Siguatepeque, Honduras; serving as a campus minister’s wife for eleven years at Virginia Tech; teaching preschoolers in Bible class; teaching second graders at Cumberland Heights, Norman Smith and Liberty; counseling and cooking at Lylewood Christian camp, graduating as a member of Clarksville High’s class of 1980 and of Radford University’s class of 1998.
Cyndi loved being called Nana more than any other name. Other things that made her smile were family vacations in Pigeon Forge, Baldwin and Breeden family reunions, antiquing, country music – especially Randy Travis, Hallmark movies and Chonda Pierce comedy clips.
Visitation for Cyndi is on Thursday, August 8th from four to eight p.m. at McReynolds, Nave and Larson Funeral Home and Friday, August 9th from one until the time of the two o’clock service at Hilldale Church of Christ. Beloved family friend Ben Flatt will speak. Randall Smith, Randall Burch, Lee Wood, Bobby Mimms and her nephews will serve as pall bearers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Lylewood Christian Camp. Condolences can be made online at

I am so very sorry to read of Cyndi's passing. She was one of my dear friends as a little girl. Although I lost touch with her over the years, I will always remember our times at church and her house when I was little. God bless her family and friends!

When I think of Cyndi three things come to mind:
1. Sweet. Cyndi was one of the sweetest people I have ever know. Sweetness radiated from Cyndi smile, her words, and every aspect of her life.
2. Family. From the very first time I met Cyndi, it was obvious that the most important thing in Cyndi's life was her family - her physical family and her spiritual family.
3. Ro-y-eeeeee. When Cyndi said Roy's name she turned a one-syllable word into three long syllables. As she spoke his name her sweetness and her love for family was never in doubt...especially Ro-y-eeeeee.
I am blessed that the Lord allowed me to know and experience Cyndi's sweet love.
