Betty entered this life on September 8, 1945 in Fairhaven, Vermont to John E. Benson Sr. and Violet Howard Benson. Betty was a spit fire, and loved jewelry and glamour...anything to stand out in a crowd. She enjoyed thrift stores, yard sales and a good bargain. Betty also loved being on the farm with her daughter, Penny, son-in-law, Roy and grandson Kenneth and appreciated the satisfaction of hard work and a job well done. Feeling useful was of great importance to Betty, whether tending flowers, doing dishes, cleaning, or rearranging, she liked to stay busy. Betty was also known for her steadfast determination, her "heart of gold", and having beat cancer at 73.

Survivors include her children, Penny Griffy and her husband Roy, Tina Webb, and Bernard Slater, Jr and his wife Lisa; children by marriage, Donnie Slater, Stanley Slater (Brenda), Carl Slater (Linda Green), Judy Cuddeback (Mark); siblings, Gus Benson (Betty) and Doris Pauquette; and her fur baby, Holly Dolly, the teacup chihuahua. She was also the loving grandmother to Russell Allen, Ariel Berry, Kenneth Griffy, Shawnecey Loveland (Kyle) Cheyanne Kirkey (Skyler), Dakota Webb, Mason Webb, and Destiny Slater and great grandmother to Landan, Hayden, Brixon, Bryson, Kayden, Nella, Logan, Gracin, Wyatt, Sophia, Anna, and two others on the way.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her, husband, Bernard Slater, Sr. “BJ”; siblings, Robert Benson, Liz Shorey, Jack Benson, and Florence Martin.
