Betty Lambert

November 22, 1930 — December 4, 2022

Betty V. Lambert, age 92 of Clarksville Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at home. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her five siblings, and her spouse, Donald Burton Lambert.

Betty grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, and exhibited an early determination for achieving goals. She began saving money for college by cutting ribbons in a department store at the age of 13. Her college graduation was delayed by a stint as an army wife and the birth of children, but she graduated from Auburn University in 1956 and went on to earn graduate degrees from Austin Peay State University and George Peabody College (Vanderbilt University).

Betty spent her career in education. She touched the lives of countless children, parents, and fellow educators with a quick smile, researched methodologies, and a genuine concern for each person as a child of God. Every moment was teachable, and she never missed the opportunity.

Betty was known for her sweet and gentle spirit, but she could be a force when fighting political administrations regarding educational policies which were not age appropriate for young children. She participated in numerous clubs and boards across Montgomery county, including the Treehouse Childcare, Headstart, Tennessee Association for Young Children, and the Retired Teachers Association. She taught student teachers at APSU and was honored by the Education Department for that work.

For over 50 years, Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville teaching Sunday School to five year olds, helping them discover the miracles of God’s world and His love. She loved music and taught her children to sing. Betty enjoyed being actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also spent her retirement reading, traveling, gardening, and sharing time with many friends.

Betty is survived by her children, Stephen (Melanie) Lambert of Indianapolis, Jane (Steve) Wallace, and Neil (Ann) Lambert of Nashville and by grandchildren Daniel (Gretchen) Lambert, Robert (Alexis) Lambert, Lauren (Matt) Lane, Mark Vick, Ross (Lauren) Wallace, Sarah (Anders) Ludvigsen, and Margaret (Matt) Lyle, four great grandchildren, Baird, Garreth, Caroline, and Mary Charlotte and beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, main sanctuary at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 9 with visitation from 1:00-2:00. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs of Arcadia Assisted Living and Avalon Hospice for their kind care to Betty during her last year of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Don and Betty Lambert Scholarship, APSU Foundation, PO Box 4417, Clarksville,TN 37044 or to First Baptist Church.
